On September 23, 2024, Berkeley College hosted the China Education Association for International Exchange Forum at the Woodland Park campus. In-person and virtual participants included 130 representatives from 70 Chinese and U.S. colleges.
Kevin L. Luing, Chairmanof the Board of Berkeley College, welcomed the participants and introduced Berkeley College highlighting its values, "We put the student first, we embrace diversity, we demand integrity, and we commit to continuous improvement. Outside is a statue of my father, Larry Luing, with the words, 'The student always comes first.' Everyone at Berkeley College - whether we are faculty or staff - put that into practice every day. They are the words that we live by - The student always comes first."
Yu Yougen, Education Counselor of the Consulate General of the Peoples' Republic of China in NY, mentioned that China and the U.S. have continuously strengthened educational exchanges and cooperation and hoped the two countries will continue to work together to promote vocational education exchanges.
AnYan, Deputy Secretary - General of the China Education Association for International Exchanges, introduced the efforts made by the Association in promoting international cooperation in vocational education, further statingthat she hoped events such as the one at Berkeley College will expand the dialogue between academic institutions in the U.S. and China on vocational education.
Pan Yonsheng, President of Jiangsu Agriculture and Forestry Vocational and Technical College, and José A. Tavares, Vice President of the Global Alliance at Berkeley College, delivered presentations on education initiatives.
In a panel discussion, Xie Yonghua, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Nanjing University of Industry and Technology; ShujunEspinoza, Executive Director of the University of North Carolina Education Alliance; Cen Yong, Vice President of Ningbo Polytechnic University; and Janice Thomas, Director of the International Education Center of Brookdale Community College, shared their experiences.
Berkeley College and LudongUniversity signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Vocational College of Industryand the University of North Carolina Education Alliance signed a similar document.
With the support and guidance of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange of the Ministry of Education, the China Education Association for International Exchange has organized and promoted similar forums since 2022, aiming to build a platform for people-to-people exchanges in vocational education between China and the U.S.
