Wyoming Department of Workforce Services Celebrates National Disability Employment Awareness Month

CHEYENNE, WY - The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services (DWS) proudly joins the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy in celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). Each October, this nationwide campaign highlights disability employment issues and the many contributions of America's workers with disabilities. This year's theme, Access to Good Jobs for All, underscores the importance of creating a workforce where individuals of all abilities can thrive.

October 2024 marks the 79th anniversary of NDEAM, dedicated to educating the public about disability employment issues and celebrating the contributions of America's workers with disabilities. "Our communities and economy are strengthened by the inclusion of all people, including people with disabilities," said Taryn M. Williams, Assistant Secretary of Labor for Disability Employment Policy. "Their contributions have always been essential to our nation's success, and their role is more critical today than ever."

Throughout October, DWS's Division of Vocational Rehabilitation will participate in several activities to educate the public and employers. Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon has signed a proclamation recognizing October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month, further emphasizing the state's commitment to this important cause. Additionally, the Division participated in proclamation signings at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, as well as one with Cheyenne Mayor Patrick Collins. These efforts and more aim to reinforce Wyoming's dedication to fostering accessible work environments and encouraging opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

"DWS is proud to support this year's National Disability Employment Awareness Month," said DWS Director Liz Gagen. "Our goal is to ensure that all voices are heard and all abilities are recognized. We want to emphasize the value that individuals with disabilities bring to our workplaces and communities."
