Debris and Solid Waste Collection Following Hurricane Milton

Waste Pro solid waste collection resumed Monday, Oct. 14, on the normal schedule for all Cape Coral routes. This collection is for household garbage only, including spoiled food. Regular collection of recycling and manageably-sized bulk and horticulture waste will resume the week of October 21.

Hurricane Milton Debris Removal Plan:

Due to the lower volume of hurricane debris from Hurricane Milton compared to Hurricane Ian, the City's contracted debris hauler and City crews will conduct one pass for all storm debris collection beginning Monday, October 21. To be included in this hurricane debris collection, residents must set out all Hurricane Milton debris by Sunday, October 20.

Hurricane Debris Placement Guidelines:

· Most Important - Please set storm debris at the curb away from your normal weekly garbage service; it will be collected and documented separately.

· Place storm debris at the curb in four separate piles:

· Household garbage

· Appliances (white goods)

· Yard Waste

· Construction and demolition debris.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) rules require documentation of the volume and type of debris collected to reimburse the city for storm cleanup, which saves local taxpayer dollars.

· Household garbage must be placed in a 40-gallon can or heavy plastic bag, each weighing no more than 50 pounds.

· To expedite collection, do not place anything beneath low hanging obstacles like trees or power lines or near anything like fire hydrants or mailboxes.

· Food must be removed from any appliance set at the curb. Inedible food should be placed with your normal weekly garbage.

For private or gated communities:

FEMA regulations require that private or gated communities have a current Right of Entry and Indemnification form on file with the City of Cape Coral before any disaster debris recovery crews are allowed to enter the community. City of Cape Coral Right of Entry Form.

Debris Drop-off Sites:

Starting Wednesday, October 16, two debris drop-off sites opened seven days a week, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the next four weeks. They will accept C&D debris and vegetative waste from residents with ID (no commercial or contractor debris).

· 1821 SW 42nd St (Entrance off SW 19th Ave)

· 1119 NW 31st Ave (Entrance off NW 28th Pl)

Resident Bulk Drop-off Site:

Open Monday to Saturday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, accepting bulk items, horticulture debris, and white goods for the next few weeks.

· For residents only; no commercial or contractor debris.
