Help is Still Available for Hurricane Francine Survivors after FEMA Deadline

Release Date:
November 19, 2024

The official deadline to apply for FEMA disaster assistance has passed. However, help from FEMA is still at hand for Louisiana renters and homeowners who have damage to their residence from Hurricane Francine. Here are some options:

Missed the FEMA Deadline? You Can Still Apply

If you couldn't apply with FEMA before the deadline and you have damage to your home, you have another 60 days (from the Nov. 18 deadline) to complete late applications for FEMA assistance.

  • The easiest way to apply late with FEMA is to call the Helpline at 800-621-3362. The FEMA Helpline is open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. CST. By calling the Helpline, you can provide an explanation by phone of why you couldn't apply before the deadline.
  • If you apply late via disasterassistance.gov or the FEMA mobile app, FEMA will send you a letter via U.S. mail or your online FEMA account asking you to explain why you couldn't apply before the deadline. To explain, call the FEMA Helpline or send FEMA a letter, either by mail or by uploading it to your online account at disasterassistance.gov.

Connect with FEMA to Access all Available Resources

Keep FEMA up to date. Applicants need to inform FEMA of any changes in your circumstances or contact information, including the current status of your insurance settlement. Ask FEMA any questions you may have concerning your recovery.

  • Stay in touch through the FEMA Helpline, 800-621-3362, online at disasterassistance.gov, on the FEMA mobile app. People who use a relay service, captioned telephone service or other assistive service should give FEMA the number for that service. Multilingual operators are available.
