Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Joakim Strand will visit in Strasbourg on 27 November. The programme for his visit includes meetings with President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola and several key Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and committee chairs. The Minister will also meet with the MEPs from Finland.
In addition to President Metsola, Minister Strand will meet with Chair of the European People's Party Group Manfred Weber, Vice-Chair of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats Ana Catarina Mendes, Chair of the Committee on Budgets Johan Van Overtveldt and Vice-Chair of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs Ľudovít Ódor.
The meetings will focus on strengthening Europe's competitiveness, security and unity. Issues related to the EU's next financial framework and the rule of law will also be on the agenda.
"It is important that we actively promote Finland's key EU policy objectives in our discussions with the European Parliament. Europe's strategic competitiveness, comprehensive security and clean transition are objectives that will shape our future. The same is true of supporting Ukraine as it defends itself against Russia's illegal war of aggression," says Minister Strand.
President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen will present the new Commission's programme to the European Parliament in its plenary session on Wednesday 27 November. On the same day, the European Parliament will vote on the composition of the Commission.
