Introducing Mabel and Winnie, the Mount’s Therapy Dogs!

Mount St. Joseph University is excited to introduce our newest members, Mabel and Winnie, the official therapy dogs of MSJ! Our therapy dogs belong to two different faculty members at the Mount. Mabel is Jen Garrett's dog. Jen Garrett, MPAS, PA-C, is the Chair and Program Director of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies. Winnie is Monica Myers's dog. Monica Myers, PT, DPT, C/NDT, CBIS, is an Instructor of Physical Therapy. Both Mabel and Winnie will be visiting the Mount's campus once a week with the PA and DPT students but all are welcome to stop by and see our newest furry friends!

According to the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, "Therapy animals are those animals that offer some kind of benefit to a person in healing from or improving a mental or physical disorder. While the animal doesn't directly aid in the recovery process, the therapy team offers support to the person during recovery. Dogs, cats, horses, and birds are common healing companions that nurture a sense of well-being to reduce anxiety and depression."

The Mount's hope for providing therapy dogs on campus is "to comfort and make people smile. Therapy dogs decrease stress and can uplift the mood of students." Monica Myer

Meet Our Therapy Dogs!

Mabel

Breed: Bassett mix

Age: We think she's 9-10, but she was a rescue dog so she's rather secretive about her exact age.

Personality/manor: SOOOOO easygoing and has been from the first day with us. She loves people of all ages, exploring Cincinnati, sleeping in a sunbeam (actively seeks out sunbeams in our condo), and food…any food.

Winnie

Breed: Golden Retriever

Age: 5 years old

Personality/manor: Loves water (including swimming and mud!), all people (especially kids), and food (especially people food).
