On October 29, the ten winners of the third Female* Producer Prize (FPP) were honored during a festive award ceremony at Fotografiska Berlin. The event celebrated the diverse talents of the winners and emphasized the importance of supporting female* producers in the music industry.
The evening was opened by Katja Lucker, Managing Director of Initiative Musik, the German federal government's central funding institution for popular music and jazz: "We need more initiatives like the Female* Producer Prize so that we don't miss out on great talent. We need visibility for artists who face barriers because they are female, POC or people with disabilities. I would like to call on the entire industry to get on board with this."
This year, the prize was awarded in two distinct categories. In the "Self-Producing Artist" category, six producers were celebrated: Joules the Fox, KUOKO, lùisa, Melane, Philo Tsoungui, and Sera Kalo. Meanwhile, in the "Producer" category, Lisa Kida, Mia Diekow, Perera Elsewhere, and YUKI were recognized.
"The moment we share something and find people with the same values and vision is crucial to create real change. Even if we make music alone, we are connected through the Female* Producer Prize and can learn from each other", says Novaa, winner of the Female* Producer Prize 2022.
On the same day before the award ceremony, the winners participated in various workshops at the Sony Music Circle Studios, where they were coached by renowned experts and producers such as LIA, Sara Torchani (Creative Director Circle Studios), Jovanka v. Wilsdorf, and Novaa (producer and FPP 2022 winner). Additionally, all winners receive a sponsorship package as well as three exclusive studio days at the O2 Music Studios in Berlin or Hamburg.
The Female* Producer Prize is supported by RBX GmbH, funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media, as well as by Sony Music Entertainment, Sony Music Publishing, Thomann Music House, Ableton, Orchestral Tools, and the SAE Institute. Further supporters of the initiative are the Female* Producer Collective, Fotografiska Berlin, and the O2 Music Studios.
The Female* Producer Prize was launched in 2022 by Music Women* Germany, Sony Music Entertainment Germany, and initiator Jovanka v. Wilsdorf. Its goal is to promote and increase the visibility of outstanding female and non-binary music producers in Germany. More information about this year's winners and jury can be found here.
