The Brazilian government takes note with surprise of the offensive tone adopted in statements from Venezuelan authorities towards Brazil and its national symbols.
Choosing personal attacks and rhetorical escalation, instead of political and diplomatic channels, is not in line with the respectful manner in which the Brazilian government approaches Venezuela and its people.
Brazil has always held in high regard the principle of non-intervention and fully respects the sovereignty of each country, especially that of its neighbors.
The Brazilian government's interest in the Venezuelan electoral process stems, among other factors, from its role as a witness to the Barbados Agreements, to which it was invited, as well as from the invitation to monitor the July, 28 elections.
The Brazilian government remains convinced that partnerships should be based on open dialogue, respect for differences, and mutual understanding.
