Treasurer Stacy Garrity Visits Shirey Dairy Farm with Armstrong Conservation District to Promote INVEST Program

Mayport, PA - Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity today toured Shirey Dairy Farm to discuss the importance of agriculture and land preservation in Pennsylvania - and to thank the Armstrong Conservation District for being a participant in Treasury's INVEST program. The farm, a third-generation family operation, includes nearly 170 acres of land that is preserved by the conservation district.

The tour was led by farm owner Rich Shirey. Treasurer Garrity was joined by Rep. Donna Oberlander (R-62), Rep. Abby Major (R-60), a representative from the office of Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman (R-41), Holly Laird and Jay Hogg of the Armstrong Conservation District, Armstrong Conservation District Director Spurgeon Shilling, Armstrong County Agricultural Land Preservation Board Member Marlene Kammerdiener, Michele McMinn of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, local dairy farmer Scott Bowser, and others.

The Shirey Farm is one of 13 dairy farms operating in Armstrong County today. Less than 35 years ago, in 1990, the county was home to 78 dairy farms. The farm, founded in 1972, now covers 6,500 acres and is the home to 800 dairy cows. It has operations in Mayport, Dayton and Punxsutawney, and also grows corn, hay, wheat, oats, beans and alfalfa.

Managed by Treasury's investment team, INVEST is designed for local government agencies like townships, counties, and school districts, as well as nonprofit organizations such as volunteer fire companies, libraries and others.

INVEST offers two pools, the Daily Pool for local governments and the Community Pool for nonprofit organizations. Both pools maintain the highest credit rating possible from Standard and Poor's Global Ratings of AAAm.

Both investment pools provide daily liquidity, with no minimum balance requirements, no minimum deposit amounts and no limit on the number of transactions an organization can make. Treasury may also offer periodic custom investment opportunities for longer-term financial needs of participants.

Treasury's investment staff has managed INVEST for over 30 years. In fiscal year 2023-24, participants shared more than $75 million in earnings. More than 450 INVEST participants currently have over $1.6 billion in assets.
