ROBBERY SERIES INVESTIGATION AND ARRESTS

Officers and Robbery detectives have made an arrest related to multiple armed robberies that have occurred between July 2023 and Sept. 2024.

On Sept. 23, 2024 at approximately 12:22 a.m., officers responded to a business at 6598 Cherry Avenue regarding an armed robbery. Officers located the suspect vehicle and a brief pursuit was initiated after the driver failed to yield. Two male adult suspects fled from the vehicle after striking a curb. Both suspects were taken into custody.

During their investigation, officers located a firearm and additional evidence connecting them to the robbery.

The suspects were identified as Jose Angel Rios Pinedo and James Pierce.

  • Pinedo, a 29-year-old resident of Maywood, was booked for robbery, threaten crime with intent to terrorize, exhibiting a concealed firearm in public, own firearm without serial number, resisting a peace officer, carrying a loaded firearm in public, evading a peace officer with reckless driving, vandalism, and felon in possession of a firearm.
  • Pierce, a 49-year-old resident of Long Beach, was booked for resisting a peace officer and possession of a controlled substance.

Robbery detectives conducted multiple investigations related to similar robberies that occurred in 2023 and 2024 that included reviewing surveillance footage, identifying suspect vehicles, and canvassing for additional evidence. Pinedo was identified as the suspect responsible for the robberies.

At this time, Pierce is not connected to any additional robberies.

Robbery and Special Investigations detectives served a search warrant on Pinedo's residence and located evidence related to additional robberies.

Detectives believe Pinedo is responsible for incidents at the following locations:

  • 7/27/2023 -5400 Atlantic
  • 11/30/2023 - 5740 Atlantic
  • 8/22/2024 - 6151 Atlantic Avenue
  • 9/9/2024 - 5121 Atlantic Avenue
  • 9/10/2024 - 621 E Market Street
  • 9/23/2024 - 6598 Cherry Avenue

These cases have been presented to the District Attorney's Office for filling consideration.
