A career in pharmaceutical or medical device sales is what Sarah Wagner has her sights set on, a plan only further solidified by her summer experience with Benco Dental, a national dental distributor based in Pittston.

"As a sales intern, I had the privilege of learning from experienced reps and expanding my knowledge within the sales field," said Wagner, a senior at Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg and a professional sales and marketing major.

During her internship, Wagner managed tasks like cold calling 250 accounts, using CRM systems, co-traveling with senior reps, and pitching products at events and lunch-and-learns. This hands-on experience enhanced her customer relationships, product pitching, and communication skills, Wagner said.

She also credits the Zeigler College of Business for preparing her to thrive in a fast-paced sales environment.

"In my sales courses, I've been exposed to real-life scenarios and role plays, which greatly impacted my success at Benco," she explained. "I learned key sales strategies, how to deal with different communication styles, and how to adapt to various customer needs."

Her biggest takeaways from the internship were building trust and long-term customer relationships.

"To be successful in sales, you need to be knowledgeable, trustworthy, and maintain a continuing dialogue with your clients," she emphasized. "It's not just about making a sale; it's about building lasting relationships."

Her internship not only helped her solidify her career goals, Wagner said the experience gave her the skills and confidence to take the next step in her professional journey.

Looking back, Wagner feels the combination of academic learning and hands-on experience prepared her well.

"The Zeigler College of Business has given me the tools I need to succeed in the real world," she said. "I'm grateful for the opportunities I've had in the classroom and my internship."
