Suspect charged with possessing child sexually abusive material

Chesterfield Township, MI - Thursday, October 24, 2024, at approximately 7:30AM, the Sheriff's Enforcement Team (SET) assisted the Chesterfield Police Department in the apprehension of Joshua Mathes, 43-years-old, from Chesterfield. Mathes is suspected of possessing child sexually abusive material (CSAM).

Detectives recovered several laptops, cellular phones, tablets, a CPU hard drive and small external hard drive. Mathes also allegedly visited a variety of websites containing CSAM content, and message boards known to be used by child predators to exploit children.

Mathes was taken into custody outside his home without incident.

Mathes was arraigned today at 42nd District Court in New Baltimore on charges of

  • Three (3) Counts - Child Sexually Abusive Material - Aggravated Possession - a 10-year felony
  • Three (3) Counts - Computers - Using to Commit a Crime - a 10-year felony

Bond was set at $10,000 cash/surety. Conditions upon release include no online use or contact with minors under the age of 18 years old.
