U.S. News report includes Rowan among top national universities

U.S. News & World Report this week named Rowan University to its list of the top national universities in America (171) as well as a top public national university (92).

The news magazine, which publishes a much-watched annual best-of compilation for higher education, also named Rowan among the best colleges in America for veterans at national universities (120); a best value national university (98); and a top performer for social mobility (211), an important metric that gauges how well students do financially after graduating.

U.S. News also recognized Rowan for programmatic achievements. Among programs specifically mentioned in its 2025 college rankings edition were:

- undergraduate programs through the Rohrer College of Business (248)

- the Bachelor of Science in nursing (392)

- undergraduate economics (293)

- undergraduate computer science (281)

- undergraduate engineering (113)

- undergraduate psychology (322)

Rowan President Ali Houshmand described the rankings as an important recognition as the university marches toward designation as an R1 Carnegie-classified public doctoral research university.

"As always, we are very pleased to be included in the U.S. News & World Report rankings," Houshmand said. "That said, the greatest measures of any university are the education it imparts to its students, the knowledge it creates through robust research, and the impact it makes on its community. By those measures, Rowan is doing very well."

The University, which since 2012 has more than doubled enrollment to roughly 23,000 students, opened Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) in Camden and acquired Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford in that same period.

Recognized as the third fastest-growing public research university in America by the Chronicle of Higher Education last year, Rowan in 2025 will open the Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine, New Jersey's first and only veterinary school.

U.S. News this summer recognized CMSRU as among the best medical schools in America for primary care and research.
