ELRAMA, Pa. (Nov. 7, 2024) - Today, Pennsylvania American Water representatives were joined by state and local officials and members of the Washington County Manufacturer's Association (WCMA) to tour infrastructure improvements at the company's EH Aldrich Treatment Plant in Elrama, Washington County.
"We are proud to host the WCMA to showcase our $45 million investment in the Aldrich facility. By upgrading our infrastructure, we are enhancing the reliability and efficiency of our water treatment processes," said Bruce Aiton, Vice President of Engineering at Pennsylvania American Water. "This is crucial for manufacturers dependent on a consistent, high-quality water supply."
WCMA members and local dignitaries had the opportunity to tour the plant and learn more about the company's upgrades. These included the recently completed construction of a 715,000-gallon water clarifying tank, which will help provide redundancy and assist in disposing of solids removed during the water treatment.
"This tour put into perspective all of the infrastructure needed to deliver safe drinking water to our communities," said Larry Butka, WCMA president. "It also was an impressive display of Pennsylvania American Water's strong commitment to ongoing investment in our community's water infrastructure."
Visitors also had the opportunity to learn more about additional upgrades at the treatment plant, including raw water intake and pump station upgrades, chemical unloading facility enhancements, the rehabilitation of an existing clarifier tank rehabilitation, and the construction of a second clarifier tank.
"This event was a wonderful opportunity to see these significant investments by Pennsylvania American Water," said State Representative Andrew Kuzma. "Nothing is more important to our residents than safe, clean, dependable drinking water."
The EH Aldrich Water Treatment Plant processes an average of 32 million gallons of water daily. This capacity ensures that the plant can meet the water needs of its approximately 216,000 connections in southern Allegheny and northern Washington counties.
