APPOINTMENT OF NEW HEADS OF DIPLOMATIC MISSION OF MALAYSIA

His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia presented the Letters of Credence to two (2) new Heads of Diplomatic Mission of Malaysia during a ceremony held at Istana Negara today. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan and Deputy Secretary General (Bilateral Affairs) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dato' Ahmad Rozian bin Abd. Ghani.

The newly appointed Heads of Diplomatic Mission are:

Dato' Dr. Shazelina binti Zainul Abidin

High Commissioner-designate of Malaysia to Canada

Dato' Dr. Shazelina hails from Kuala Lumpur and attained her PhD. in Political Science from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom. She was appointed as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996. Prior to this appointment, she served as the Undersecretary of South and Central Asia Division from 2023.

She previously served as the Ambassador of Malaysia to Senegal (2018-2021) and was posted to the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the United Nations in New York and Embassy of Malaysia in Washington D.C., United States of America.

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she held the positions of Director General of the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR), Deputy Director General at the Department of Policy Planning and Coordination, Undersecretary of Communication and Public Diplomacy Division and Undersecretary of Human Rights and Social Affairs Division. She was also assigned to the Multilateral Economic and Environment Division, Strategic Planning Division, Multilateral Political Division and Europe Division.

Mr. Rizany Irwan Muhamad Mazlan

Ambassador-designate of Malaysia to Algeria

Encik Rizany Irwan hails from Melaka and graduated from the University of Hertfordshire, United Kingdom. He was appointed as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2001. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Undersecretary of the Administration and Security Division from 2022.

Previously, he was the Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Malaysia in Manila, the Philippines. He had also been posted to the Embassy of Malaysia in Yangon, Myanmar, as Second Secretary.

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he had served as the Deputy Chief of Protocol, and had been assigned to the Department of Coordination and Implementation, Finance Division, Administration and Security Division, Territorial and Maritime Affairs Division, Adjudication and Arbitration Division, as well as Americas Division.
