New Regulations in Effect for Oversized Vehicle Parking

The Garden Grove City Council has adopted an ordinance to further regulate the parking of oversized vehicles to enhance public safety and maintain neighborhood aesthetics. The updated regulations, now in effect, require oversized vehicles parked on public and private streets to have a valid, City-issued permit, available at no cost.

Ordinance No. 2957 revises the sections of the Garden Grove Municipal Code pertaining to wide vehicles and trailers, and recreational vehicles. The following oversized vehicle restrictions are now in effect:

• Parking of oversized vehicles (exceeding 22 feet long, or 80 inches wide) is prohibited on city streets without a valid permit.
• Oversized vehicles also include trailers of any size (attached or unattached) and recreational vehicles (RVs) of any size.
• Garden Grove residents may obtain free oversized vehicle parking permits for themselves and their visitors online at www.ggcity.org/oversized-vehicles or in-person at Garden Grove City Hall, located at 11222 Acacia Parkway. Proof of residency, driver's license, email address, and license plate number are required at the time of registration.
• Residents and their visitors may park oversized vehicles adjacent to their residence for a maximum of 72 consecutive hours with a valid permit.
• An annual maximum of 12 permits may be issued to each resident per calendar year.
• Oversized vehicles in violation to the new ordinance are subject to a citation or tow.

The revised regulations will continue to allow Garden Grove residents to obtain permits to load and unload trailers and recreational vehicles at no cost. Additionally, the regulations do not impact the existing requirements for storing recreational vehicles on private property.
