(Kansas City, MO)- Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) attended a press conference and ribbon cutting for the new, state-of-the-art substance use treatment center in the heart of Kansas City's UMKC Health Sciences District, which was funded, in part, by $2.5 million in federal Community Project Funding secured by Rep. Cleaver.

"Two years ago, I was pleased to join University Health leadership to announce $2.5 million in federal Community Project Funding I was able to secure for the new Center for Recovery and Wellness," said Congressman Cleaver. "Today, thanks to the collaboration between local, federal, and public health leaders, I am proud to stand alongside health system leadership once again to celebrate the treatment center's official grand opening. Addiction is an illness that has devastated far too many families in our community, but it's important for folks to know that help is available, and the Center for Recovery and Wellness will be a critical resource that provides essential treatment and services to those in need."

"For years, University Health Behavioral Health has been a beacon of hope for people in times of crisis, offering services that have transformed lives," said Charlie Shields, University Health President and CEO. "Today, we take a major step forward. Our new Center for Recovery and Wellness is equipped to support individuals at every stage of their recovery journey."

The Center for Recovery and Wellness is one of ten projects Congressman Cleaver championed in 2021, securing $15,156,000 in federal fundingfor Fiscal Year 2022 that is directly benefitting constituents in Missouri's Fifth Congressional District.
