Stony Brook University's Office of Military and Veteran Student Services was featured in this month's US Veterans Magazine, highlighting all the programs and support SBU offers student veterans and dependents.
The magazine spoke with Pamela Pfeil, associate director of Military and Veteran Student Services, about how Stony Brook has become a leader in "providing exceptional support to military and veteran students, creating an environment where they can thrive academically, socially and professionally."
The article notes that Stony Brook has developed a comprehensive approach that addresses the unique challenges veterans face, while celebrating their contributions to the campus community.
The feature also touts the university's Veterans Center as a space to foster a sense of belonging and community, and the cornerstone of efforts to ensure student veterans feel connected to the university. The office's programs, like the Vets-4-Vets sponsorship program, and mental health and career support services, are also highlighted by the magazine.
"We work hard to create that sense of belonging," Pfeil says in the article. "We know that creating a community can be a great step in helping veterans feel less isolated."
