Burbank PD News Release: Arrest of Interest

Burbank, CA (November 14, 2024) - The Burbank Police Department is seeking information about a woman impersonating a nurse, who has been working at Los Angeles County Hospitals without a license.

In May 2024, the Burbank Police Department received a report of a female who allegedly impersonated a registered nurse at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center. Over the next few months, investigators were able to identify the suspect as 44-year-old Amanda Leeann Porter, of Virginia (depicted in the photo below).

Porter applied for and obtained the nursing position at Saint Joseph Medical Center, then began overseeing approximately 60 patients that came under her care between April 8, 2024, and May 8, 2024. Hospital staff soon discovered Porter was impersonating a real registered nurse, who lived out of state. By the time Porter was terminated, she received two paychecks for the time she was fraudulently employed.

Porter does not hold a nursing license and is on federal probation for a fraud violation committed in the State of Virginia. During this investigation, detectives learned that Porter continued to obtain employment with various local hospitals using a variety of false identities.

On Thursday, November 7, 2024, the Burbank Police Department arrested Porter pursuant to an arrest warrant after she bonded out of Los Angeles County Sheriff's custody for a similar violation committed at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Santa Clarita. On November 12, 2024, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office filed charges of Identity Theft, False Impersonation, and Grand Theft; all felonies, against Porter.

On November 13, 2024, Porter was arraigned and is currently being held without bail at the Los Angeles County Central Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood.

It is believed that Porter may have committed additional similar offenses in the Southern California area during the past year. Please contact your local law enforcement agency or Burbank Police Detective Arias at (818) 238-3210 if you have any information about Porter obtaining employment at a medical center in your city. You can remain anonymous.
