CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - Significant improvements have been made to the North Beach area in the last five years. During today's regularly scheduled City Council meeting, Mayor Paulette Guajardo and the Council received a presentation on updates for ongoing and recently completed projects revitalizing North Beach. Current projects include North Beach drainage improvements, design for the elevation and reconstruction of Beach Avenue and Gulfspray Avenue, and design for a Gulfspray Avenue pedestrian and bicycle trail.

Members from the North Beach Community Association were in attendance and favorably acknowledged the improvements.

Completed projects include renovating Surfside Park restrooms, the play area, expanded parking, and collaborating with the Texas State Aquarium on the new Wildlife Rescue Center.

Jeff Edmonds, P.E., Director, Engineering Services, briefed the Mayor and Council on the following projects currently in design or construction:

• Advertising for bids for the construction of new drainage infrastructure to relieve ongoing drainage issues
• Advertising for bids to construct the North Beach Eco Park, an environmentally conscious park with healthy wetlands and wildlife, trails, boardwalks, and observation decks with interpretive signs and educational resources.
• Advertising for bids for the elevation and reconstruction of Beach Avenue and Gulfspray Avenue
• Advertising for bids for the construction of the Gulfspray Avenue pedestrian and bicycle trail between North Beach and the new Harbor Bridge
• Design of expanding parking for the Texas State Aquarium
• Work to prepare the site of the Puerto Del Sol RV Park
• Demolition of the fire-damaged portions of the Villa Del Sol Condominiums
• Structural repairs to the Fajitaville Restaurant and adjacent parking lot
• Structural repairs to the Hotel de Ville and adjacent parking lot

Completed project highlights included:

• Renovation of Surfside Park restrooms, parking lot and play area
• Construction of the Texas State Aquarium Wildlife Rescue Center, the country's largest and most advanced facility of its kind
• Collaboration with the North Beach Community Association on the creation of a nonstructural fill dirt management policy
• Addressing the movement of beach sand due to Tropical Storm Alberto
• Replacement of 35 trash cans and 15 vandalized signs along the beach

The revitalization efforts aim to provide a great neighborhood to live in, enhance the overall visitor experience, and promote economic growth in the area.
