SEMO Enhances Premier Visit Day

Students interested in seeing Southeast Missouri State University will have five opportunities to view campus and experience SEMO in a whole new way.

Show Me Day allows students an immersive introduction to academics and campus life while experiencing a day tailored to their interests, getting college questions answered and exploring everything SEMO has to offer.

"We have transformed Show Me Day, so students have real experiences while visiting to give them the best feel for life as a Redhawk," said Lenell Hahn, director of SEMO Admissions. "We wanted to create a visit day that has the same energy found on campus when students partake in hands-on learning with an aviation simulator or in our forensic chemistry lab, for example. A student's visit to campus may be the first step to earning a degree from SEMO, so we want them to see the possibilities and the opportunities in addition to making memorable connections and getting all their college questions answered."

Hahn says the schedule has also been re-imagined so families can map out their day and select experiences most important to them. The first Show Me Day of the school year is October 5 where prospective students will:

  • Enjoy a Student Life Expo
  • Talk with professors during an Academic Fair
  • Hear sessions about the value of a college degree, navigating admissions, paying for college and transferring credits
  • Experience a campus tour and see residence hall rooms
  • Dine on campus
  • Get hands on in their major during the Academic Showcases

Students are also welcome to visit the many state-of-the-art facilities that SEMO has to offer, including the Aquatic and Recreation Center, eSports Arena, Barton Agricultural Research Center, Center for Speech and Hearing, Hutson Horticultural Greenhouse, Nursing Simulation Lab, Observatory, Professional Pilot Program at Cape Airport, and the Rust Center for Media.

"While many attendees are high school students," said Hahn, "Show Me Day is open to adult learners, transfers, returning students, online, international and graduate students. Anyone who is interested in coming to SEMO is encouraged to come to Show Me Day."

Attendees can also get a 20% discount at the Southeast Bookstore that can be used while they're on campus that day.

Show Me Day is an event that allows students to envision themselves on campus and get their college questions answered. For prospective students interested in learning more about Show Me Day, contact the Office of Admissions by email ([email protected]) or call (573) 651-2590.
