CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (Oct. 6, 2024) - All residents should know where they will evacuate if ordered. If evacuating from our county is part of your emergency plan, go now. You do not have to wait for orders to evacuate. Delaying evacuation plans may cause you to be stuck in traffic jams.

Residents who live in areas prone to flooding, in a mobile or manufactured home or RV, or an evacuation zone should be ready to leave. It is recommended that residents evacuate tens of miles and not hundreds to avoid traffic jams.

If you choose not to evacuate, you could become trapped in a building due to rising flood water. If waters continue to rise, go to the highest level of the building, but do not climb into a closed attic.

Charlotte County urges residents to stay vigilant, monitor the storm's progress, review emergency plans, and ensure hurricane kits are ready. The Charlotte County disaster guide is available online at https://www.charlottecountyfl.gov/disasterguide.
