November 19, 2024 | From New Orleans Fire Department

Three Alarm Fire at 720 Bourbon Street

On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 2:44 a.m., the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched to reports of smoke coming from a building at the corner of Bourbon and Orleans Streets. Arriving at 2:49 a.m., firefighters were confronted with a three-story, wood-framed structure at 720 Bourbon Street with smoke coming through the roof. Firefighters made an initial attack, finding fire between the second and third floor and throughout the attic space and immediately requested a second alarm at 3:02 a.m. The fire proved difficult to access between the floors which was exhausting firefighters which prompted a request for a third alarm for extra manpower to bring this fire under control at 4:04 a.m.
NOFD personnel did an extraordinary job of containing and controlling this fire in the primary building. Entergy Electric was on scene to assist firefighters by cutting the power to the building. Twenty (20) NOFD units staffed with fifty-two (52) fire personnel were deployed to bring this incident under control. One firefighter sustained injuries to his hand and was treated on the scene by New Orleans Emergency Medical Service (NOEMS) but remained on duty. This incident is presently being investigated by NOFD Fire Investigators. Firefighters will remain on the scene for a fire watch as an extra precaution until further notice.
