Josephine County has been recognized by a national association for its current
budget.
The
Government Finance Officers Association announced this week that Josephine County earned the association's
Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025, budget. The award "reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting," according to a statement by the GFOA.
To receive the award, Josephine County had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines assess how well the budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device. Josephine County's budget documents were rated "proficient" in all four categories.
"I am incredibly honored to work with such a highly skilled and professional team that consistently performs at a level that serves to ensure compliance with strong internal controls and effective reporting," said Sandy Novak,
Josephine County Finance Department director. "Ruth Nelson, assistant finance director, and Trevin Mikels, accountant, have just done it again!"
The GFOA represents public finance officials throughout the United States and Canada. The association's more than 20,000 members are federal, state/provincial and local finance officials deeply involved in planning, financing and implementing thousands of governmental operations in each of their jurisdictions. GFOA's mission is to advance excellence in public finance.
GFOA established the Distinguished Budget Presentation awards program in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments in preparing budget documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA's best practices on budgeting, and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.
