New Jersey Institute of Technology's standing in national rankings continues to rise with U.S. News & World Report placing NJIT No. 84 among U.S. universities - improving two places from last year - in the 2025 edition of its Best Colleges list.

The latest ranking extends NJIT's upward trajectory - NJIT first entered U.S. News' top 100 in the 2023 edition and is up 19 spots since 2022 - and supports the findings of other publications that rank U.S. universities, which emphasize value and return on investment.

This year U.S. News revised its criteria to place greater emphasis on student outcomes, like social mobility, and includes other metrics in its methodology like graduation rates, faculty resources and peer assessment scores. Among national universities, NJIT ranks No. 44 in Social Mobility and No. 84 in Best Value Schools.

Additionally, NJIT continues to rise as a public national university, placing No. 42 among public institutions, and is recognized for several of its undergraduate programs further reinforcing NJIT as a premiere polytechnic university in the U.S. For example, NJIT ranked No. 79 in Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs, up 11 spots from last year.

"This recognition underscores NJIT's commitment to delivering a well-rounded education that integrates academic learning with practical, real-world experiences, preparing our graduates for successful, meaningful careers," said NJIT President Teik C. Lim. "Our focus on this mission is unwavering."

NJIT is a leader in preparing students for high-paying, in-demand STEM jobs. It recently announced a $10 million AI initiative, which strengthens the university's leadership in AI research and application. Building on nearly $60 million in AI-related research funding in 2023, this effort includes the launch of the Grace Hopper AI Research Institute and a Center for Educational Innovation Excellence, focused on AI's role in enhancing curricula and teaching. With expertise in machine learning, computer vision and robotics, NJIT aims to become a major player in AI innovation, aligning with the university's 2030 Strategic Plan to become a nexus of innovation and drive learner advancement, faculty success and industry partnerships.

NJIT is the only public university in New Jersey and one of only 54 total universities nationally to receive a five-star rating in Money's annual best colleges list. Additionally, the Wall Street Journal ranks NJIT No. 26 nationally for alumni salaries, No. 30 for upward mobility and No. 50 for value.
