Bringing communities together for Interfaith Week

Discussions during Faith Direct

Interfaith Week runs from 10 to 17 November 2024 and Wandsworth Council celebrated with events to bring different faiths together.

On Tuesday 11 November, people came together outside Tooting Broadway station to pray for peace.

Balham and Tooting Community Association organised the event and the people of Tooting showed up to share their faith and desire for peace.

The Mayor of Wandsworth, Sana Jafri was in attendance and told those gathered: "Wandsworth has long been a borough of resilience and compassion. Our history tells the story of a community that has not only weathered the storms of conflict but has opened its arms to those displaced by war."

On Wednesday 14 November, pupils from Wandsworth secondary schools attended this year's Faith Direct event at the Town Hall. It was organised by Wandsworth Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE)

The young people fired a series of questions at representatives from the borough's various faith groups.

Speakers from local Bahá'í, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Humanist, Muslim, Jewish and Sikh communities shared their perspectives and sparked a lively discussion.

These interfaith events are part of our work to foster community cohesion and come together as a borough.

We also hold regular Interfaith Meetings where faith leaders meet with the Leader of the Council Simon Hogg and the Mayor of Wandsworth to speak about the issues that affect their communities.
