The City of Santa Fe Arts and Culture Department is calling Santa Fe artists and artisans who make Santa Fe so special that it's a UNESCO Creative City for Crafts and Folk Art-the first US city to receive this prestigious international designation.
In 2025, Santa Fe will celebrate 20 years in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network and centuries of thriving artistry and craft. "GENERATION/S: Tradition as Innovation" is the guiding theme of the year.
The areas included under UNESCO's definition of "crafts and folk art" are weaving and textile arts like concha and belt making, Indigenous ceramics traditions, woodwork, jewelry, Santos and religious arts, straw applique, leatherwork, metalsmithing, and long-standing music and dance forms from across northern New Mexico.
If you are an artist whose work is rooted in our region's heritage practices, we want to hear from you.
We are meeting with community partners--museums, galleries, nonprofits, schools, and more--to dream and plan for the coming year and align our efforts.
