SWAT Arrest Armed and Dangerous Convicted Felon in Highland Park, Firearm Recovered

Seattle Police arrested a convicted felon barricaded inside his residence in Highland Park Thursday afternoon after he fired rounds out the window.

At 12:38 p.m., patrol officers responded to reports of a man shooting a gun inside a tiny home village in the 9700 block of Meyers Way South. Staff reported to 911 that he was shooting towards the common areas.

A 23-year-old employee went to check on him and he shot another two rounds through the door, the employee was not injured.

Police arrived as residents were fleeing the immediate area and evacuated people to safety.

Officers with the Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT) arrived on scene and spoke to the suspect via cell phone while the SWAT team responded to the scene. The suspect shot more rounds while police were on scene, no officers were injured.

HNT convinced the man to surrender after a nearly two hour long standoff and he was arrested. The 73-year-old man, a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing a firearm, was booked into King County Jail for Assault and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

A search warrant was issued to recover the gun and ballistic evidence. The circumstances leading up to the suspect's actions are under investigation. Detectives with the Gun Violence Reduction Unit have been assigned to this case.
