The Mishkin Gallery at Baruch College is proud to announce two transformative initiatives aimed at improving accessibility and preserving its rich collection of art for future generations.

Both initiatives reflect the College's commitment to inclusivity, cultural enrichment, and the celebration of diverse perspectives at Baruch and New York City.

Transforming Visitor Experience Through an Interactive App

The Mishkin Gallery is now among more than 450 arts and cultural institutions from around the world who are part of Bloomberg Connects. Through this free app, users have an opportunity to explore interactive digital guides of the Mishkin Gallery on their phone anytime and anywhere.

Key features of the app include:

  • Access to insightful commentary recorded by Baruch students on current and past exhibitions.
  • Detailed information on the gallery's collections and renowned artists.
  • Video highlights.
  • An interactive map of the gallery and the College's art collection across campus.

Since its inclusion as part of the app on June 28, the Mishkin Gallery can be found in the "New and Featured" section. To explore, users simply download the free Bloomberg Connects app and search for the Mishkin Gallery.

Tamae Vassell, a recent Nagelberg Fellow who organized the Mishkin Gallery's app content, said this is an exciting moment for Baruch's art museum: "This was an exciting yet tedious 12-week process," Vassell said. "There was a lot of thought that went into deciding what content we wanted to share for this initial launch. I look forward to people interacting with Mishkin Gallery through the app, and hope they enjoy their digital experience."

Preserving the Mishkin Gallery's Future

In a second significant initiative, the Mishkin Gallery has secured a contract to participate in the Collections Assessment for Preservation (CAP) grant program. This program is designed to help the gallery maintain its resources and strategically plan for the future.

Mishkin joins the ranks of recent winners and major New York institutions like Louis Armstrong House Museum & Archives in Queens and the Merchant's House Museum.

The CAP enables the Mishkin Gallery to hire a professional assessor who will conduct a thorough evaluation of the College's art collections. This assessment will culminate in a comprehensive report outlining recommendations and priorities for enhancing collections care and preserving it for the next generation of visitors.

The assessment will include:

  • A detailed study of the institution's collections, buildings, and building systems.
  • An evaluation of the gallery's collections care policies and procedures.
  • A site visit where the assessor will tour the gallery and interview staff.

Alaina Feldman, director of the Mishkin Gallery at Baruch College, City University of New York (CUNY), said: "Baruch College's art collection is a treasure to be shared and the CAP grant will play an essential role in shaping its future by ensuring we take attentive steps today."
