City, Xcel Energy Seek Applicants for Partnership Advisory Panel

The City of Boulder is seeking three to five community members to fill vacancies on the Xcel Energy Partnership Advisory Panel. The panel meets regularly to review and discuss energy issues, provide feedback on partnership projects and programs, assess community impacts and make recommendations.

Since its formation in 2021, the panel has served as a bridge between the community and the partnership, representing Boulder's residential and commercial electricity and gas customers. While applicants do not need to have expertise in energy or technology, the city and Xcel Energy are seeking voices that reflect diverse perspectives as Xcel Energy customers and Boulder community members.

The city is especially interested in recruiting representatives from the following groups:

• Residential renters
• Residents of affordable housing and manufactured housing communities
• Boulder-based commercial businesses
• Boulder-based multi-family housing
• Boulder Valley School District representatives
• Individuals with energy utility expertise

The City of Boulder city manager in coordination with Xcel Energy will select panel members, ensuring representation from a broad spectrum of energy interests in Boulder.

Advisory panel members will serve three-year terms and may serve up to two full terms. Community members can learn more about the advisory panel and apply on the partnership website. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on January 3, 2025.

Other Opportunities to Participate
The advisory panel is one of many ways to engage in Boulder's energy future. The city and Xcel Energy will also convene technical working groups, host public meetings and provide regular updates to ensure broad participation in energy-related initiatives.

Technical working groups will be formed as needed to address specific issues and questions. These groups will provide opportunities for Boulder's energy experts to contribute their knowledge. Updates on the status of these groups will be available on the partnership website and through the city's Climate Initiatives e-newsletter.

Community members are also invited to share feedback directly by emailing City Council, city staff or Xcel Energy.

Partnership Background
In November 2020, Boulder voters approved an agreement with Xcel Energy, which included the establishment of a formal partnership. This partnership aims to make progress on Boulder's clean energy and climate goals. Under the agreement, the city and Xcel Energy are working collaboratively on modern grid planning to help Boulder achieve 100% renewable electricity by 2030.
