Former Jewelry Store Employee Sentence for Stealing $100,000 in Cash and Merchandise

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that Jason T. Badagliacca, 38, of Orchard Park was sentenced this afternoon before Erie County Court Justice Kenneth F. Case to five years of probation.

Between September 14, 2021, and August 9, 2022, the defendant, while working as an inventory manager for a local jewelry business, stole $100,000 worth of money and inventory from his employer. The defendant engaged in the theft by stealing precious stones and jewelry and then selling the items on the side as well as pocketing cash payments customers who financed their purchases made on their account. The defendant attempted to conceal the thefts by manipulating business records relating to inventory and income. The theft was uncovered by an audit.

Badagliaccapleaded guilty to one count of Grand Larceny in the Second Degree (Class "C" felony), to the highest sustainable charge, on May 17, 2024. As a condition of the plea, Badagliacca signed a Confession of Judgment to pay full restitution to the victim's insurance provider in the amount of $93,000. To date, he has paid back $7,000.

Acting DA Keane commends the New York State Police for their work in this investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Christopher P. Jurusik of the Special Investigations and Prosecutions Bureau.
