Public Notice, LAS 35236, Land Use Permit Application, Temporary Meteorological Tower for Teck Alaska / Red Dog

Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Northern Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:

APPLICANT: Teck Alaska, Inc.

PROJECT NAME: LAS 35236

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION:
Approximately 10 miles SW of Red Dog Mine, near Mile 43 of the Delong Mountain Transportation Corridor (DMTC)

LEGAL DESCRIPTION:
Section 2 of Township 29N, Range 19W, Kateel River Meridian
Section 34 of Township 30N, Range 19W, Kateel River Meridian

REQUESTED ACTIVITY: Installation of a 60-meter (approximately 197 feet) tall meteorological tower adjacent to the existing Material Site 12, located near Mile 43 of the Delong Mountain Transportation Corridor (DMTC). Construction material will be staged at Material Site 12 and then slung by helicopter to the mid-alpine foothill of the Sivukat Mountain at approximately 1,450 feet above sea level. The tower will be anchored into the sedimentary rocks with helix screw anchors and steel guy wires, occupying slightly over one acre of terrain. Upon completion of the data collection the tower and all associated equipment will be removed from the site, and the area will be restored to its original condition.

REQUESTED TERM: 5 years

DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS: October 2, 2024

The public is invited to comment on this activity. The purpose of this notice is to gather input before a decision is made on this activity.
