Flossmoor Police Update: Oct. 18, 2024

On Thursday, Oct. 17, at approximately 1:35 p.m., a male suspect approached a female victim at gunpoint in the 1000 block of Douglas Avenue. The victim was robbed of her personal belongings, and the suspect demanded information about the location of her vehicle. The suspect then proceeded to the 2700 block of Flossmoor Road, where he stole the victim's vehicle. The victim was not harmed during the robbery.

Flossmoor Police Officers quickly alerted surrounding law enforcement agencies with details of the vehicle and suspect. Shortly thereafter, the vehicle was found in the 5900 block of Rice Street in Chicago. License Plate Reader (LPR) cameras were used as part of the search for the suspect. The suspect was arrested by Chicago Police Officers, the victim's vehicle was recovered, and a firearm was confiscated. The suspect is currently in custody in Flossmoor, pending charges by the Illinois State's Attorney's Office.

Due to the speed at which the suspect left Flossmoor - which was less than 5 minutes from when the alleged crime was reported and verified by LPR cameras, technology, and other sources - shelter-in-place orders, lockdowns, or other community emergency alerts were not deemed necessary by Flossmoor Police.

Updates on this incident will be provided as they become available.
