On World Mental Health Day, Mount Aloysius Announces New Online Master's Program and "Mental Health Professional" Tuition Reduction

Cresson, Pa. - In honor of World Mental Health Day 2024 and in response to the region's shortage of mental health counseling professionals, Mount Aloysius College announced a new, fully-online Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC), as well as discounted tuition by more than 25 percent for all students in the program.

"State-wide and nationally, we are facing a shortage of mental health professionals," said Dr. David Haschak, the Mount's vice president for academic affairs and provost. "We are extremely pleased to again offer programs that meet real needs in our local community and beyond, and we are excited to offer this program at a value we believe is competitive and which makes this kind of education more accessible to students in the area."

In addition to the tuition discount, students in the Mount's Psychology undergraduate program who are in good standing with at least a 3.0 GPA at graduation will be automatically admitted into the program.

"We are excited about the opportunities for potential students to advance their academic knowledge and skills as well as personal and professional development in a fully online, affordable CMHC program," said Dr. Antoinette (Petrazzi) Woods, coordinator for the new CMHC program at the Mount. "The program is aligned with CACREP standards and evidenced-based practices to promote exceptionally trained professional counselors."

The Clinical Mental Health Program will offer convenience in using a 100 percent online format for individuals seeking to obtain advanced and specialized knowledge and experience that they need to succeed in the counseling profession.

The CMHC master of science degree will include 18 synchronous and two asynchronous classes, where students will support, collaborate, and engage with peers and professors during their degree pursuit. Students will prepare to counsel diverse individuals using evidenced-based and holistic interventions to ultimately promote wellbeing, and prepare students for professional certification exams as part of the process to become Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs).

Although professional licensure requirements vary by state, Mount Aloysius College's CMHC degree offers an integral part of professional counselor status in approximately 2.5 years, which includes time off for the College's breaks.
