No Criminal Offence in Reported Suspicious Incident in Orleans

(Ottawa) - The Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Section (SACA) has completed its investigation into a reported suspicious incident in Orleans earlier this month.

After a thorough investigation, it has been determined that no criminal offence took place, and there is no risk to public safety in relation to this incident.

We extend our gratitude to the public for their assistance in identifying the driver involved, which led to a quick and positive resolution.

(Ottawa) - The Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Section (SACA) is seeking the public's assistance in identifying a suspect and vehicle involved in a possible attempted abduction in the Orleans area on October 6^th.

Between 11:00 am 12:00 pm, the suspect approached a group of children offering candy. Then, while in his vehicle, the suspect slowed and stopped next to the children. He then drove away quickly when another adult approached the situation.

The suspect is described as a middle eastern male, in his 50's, wearing a hat. The vehicle is described as a black or dark colored sedan. The vehicle would have been travelling south on Boyer Road then travelled west toward Hunter's Run Gate.

The Ottawa Police is reminding parents to frequently review tips for children with respect to safety rules. Parents should teach kids what to do when approached by a stranger. Where possible, avoid walking alone.

However, the following tips are offered to children walking alone:

• Ensure a family member or caregiver knows your route and arrival time;
• Do not talk to strangers;
• Do not accept rides from strangers;
• If an unknown adult is seeking your attention, do not approach them or the vehicle;
• If being followed, go to a public place, a known residence or shout for help.
