Stafford County Joins Tenth Annual 'Imagine a Day Without Water'

Today, October 17, 2024, Stafford County joins elected officials, water utilities, community leaders, educators, and businesses from across the country as part of the tenth annual "Imagine a Day Without Water," a nationwide day of education and advocacy about the value of water. Millions of people nationwide will participate in "Imagine a Day Without Water," led by the US Water Alliance's Value of Water Campaign. This National Day of Action aims to raise awareness about the true value of water in people's lives and the need for continued investment in the nation's water infrastructure.

The hard-working men and women at Stafford County Utilities work through holidays and extreme weather, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. These tireless efforts result in the delivery of safe and reliable drinking water to the community. In addition, Stafford County is committed to protecting its natural water resources, testing stream and reservoir samples regularly. The Department of Utilities provides nearly 10 million gallons of water per day through more than 700 miles of water line in Stafford County. This requires Stafford County's two water treatment facilities, Lake Mooney and Smith Lake, to treat almost four billion gallons of drinking water annually.

Stafford County Utilities ensures that customers receive high-quality water every time they turn on the tap, by using advanced technologies and practices in the drinking-water treatment process. You can rest assured that the water you drink meets all health regulations for safety. Stafford's water system is monitored and maintained by a team of highly skilled operators, engineers, technical experts and administrative staff to ensure Stafford's drinking water meets or exceeds every state and federal requirement that safeguards public health.

Water is used in countless ways daily, and it plays a vital role in people's lives. The next time you turn on your tap, think of the men and women of Stafford County Utilities who are hard at work making that happen. To learn more about your water, visit https://utilities.staffordcountyva.gov.
