Brenau University has been named a Military Friendly institution for the 2024-25 school year by Military Friendly Schools.

Brenau has earned the distinction consistently during the last 11 years, and this year was awarded silver status.

"Whether a student is an active duty service member, veteran, spouse or dependent, we understand that a call to service affects the entire family. Brenau's mission is to honor their service and support our military student population on all of our campuses and online around the world," Lisa Christopher, military liaison and coordinator of Academic Success Services, said.

Brenau's offerings for veterans include a military support team, Student Veterans Association, tuition discounts, veteran student lounges both on campus and online, and the Empowering Veterans speaker series.

Military Friendly Schools strive toward and succeed in the areas that matter most in helping veterans make the transition from the military to school and, ultimately, satisfying careers in the civilian world, according to the Military Friendly website.

Julamy Serrano Arocho is a veteran pursuing a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy at Brenau.

"My passion for helping others and serving the community is what inspired me to join the military. Over time, my interest in healthcare and its profound impact on people's lives grew stronger, leading me to discover occupational therapy as the ideal path to combine both passions," she said.

Arocho said Brenau has been supportive throughout her student experience.

"Transitioning out of the military and moving to Georgia to focus on building a stable future for my family was a bold step," she said. "Thankfully, throughout this journey, Brenau has been incredibly supportive: promptly addressing my questions about GI Bill benefits, fostering connections among student veterans through networking opportunities, and providing tuition discounts that have made this dream more attainable. Their commitment has played a vital role in helping me pursue my goals with confidence."

Institutions that earned the Military Friendly School designation were evaluated using public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. The rating looks at several areas, including academic policies and compliance, admissions and orientation, culture and commitment, financial aid and assistance, graduation and career, and military student support and retention.

The 2024-25 Military Friendly Schools list can be found on the Military Friendly website.
