Event recap: Shop Local! Light Up the Season

On Friday, Dec. 6, approximately 900 community members came together to celebrate the annual Shop Local! Light Up the Season event at Fremont Park. The event welcomed friends and family to a winter-themed tree lighting event with complimentary hot chocolate and apple cider, festive photo opportunities, and performances by Menlo Park youth, followed by the lighting of the big oak tree along with 19 sidewalk trees along Santa Cruz Avenue and University Drive. The trees will remain lit every night during the winter holiday season.
The event marked the debut of the big oak tree as the star of the annual light up celebration. Our traditional fir tree is taking a well-deserved break in order to preserve its health as it continues to recover from being struck by lightning over 15 years ago.
We hope you will come visit our new light display in Fremont Park this season and remember to shop local by visiting our merchants in downtown Menlo Park.
