Industry Applauds Energy Department Move to Enhance Affordability and Choice

The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) applauds the Department of Energy and the Trump Administration for its recent deregulatory decision to withdraw a proposed, unjustified dehumidifier energy standard. The dehumidifier standard would have saved some American consumers just $.58 per month over the life of the product. Based on DOE's analysis, the proposed standards would have resulted in costs-not savings-to over a third of American consumers. All energy savings opportunities must be weighed against the overall impact to the purchaser. This action aligns with the administration's high-level goals to enhance affordability and offer consumers a broader range of appliance choices.

"Reducing regulatory burden, such as through this decision, empowers manufacturers to innovate and provide consumers with diverse, cost-effective options. Consumers benefit when they can select from a wide variety of appliances that suit their needs and budgets," stated AHAM President & CEO, Kelly Mariotti. "Streamlining regulations will help to alleviate pressures on the manufacturing sector."
