National Beer Wholesalers Association's Statement on FTC Enforcement

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - The National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) released the following statement on the lawsuit filed by the Federal Trade Commission against Southern Glazer's Wine and Spirits:

"As NBWA continues to review the lawsuit, it is important to remember that Americans enjoy a safe, competitive and efficient alcohol marketplace with the greatest variety of alcohol products in the world, thanks to our state-based system of alcohol regulation. NBWA believes in the ability of states to set the appropriate level of alcohol regulation under the powers granted to them by the 10th and 21st Amendments. For decades, this system has worked well, with the federal government recognizing state expertise. NBWA will continue to examine this important lawsuit to fully understand the impact on state alcohol laws and the hardworking beer and beverage distributors we represent."

Licensed at the federal and state levels, beer distributors get bottles, cans, cases and kegs from a brewer or importer to stores, restaurants and other licensed retail accounts through a transparent and accountable regulatory system. Distributors build brands of all sizes - from familiar domestic beers to new startup labels and imports from around the world - and generate enormous consumer choice while supporting more than 137,000 quality jobs in their home communities. Beer distributors work locally to keep communities safe by sponsoring programs to promote responsible consumption, combat drunk driving and reduce underage drinking.
