Luján Statement on Passing of Former U.S. Senator Fred Harris

Santa Fe, N.M. - U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement on the passing of former U.S. Senator Fred Harris:

"Senator Fred Harris' life and career in public service was dedicated to lifting others up and working toward the greater good. He fought tirelessly for civil rights, working families, and Native communities. Over the course of his career, he had many titles: Senator, Chairman, and Professor. And we know him in New Mexico as our friend and mentor.

"Senator Harris is responsible for teaching and inspiring the next generation of leaders throughout the decades. His loss will be felt across New Mexico and the country. I will always be reminded of his legacy when I get to work with one our Fred Harris Congressional Interns.

"I am sending my love and prayers to Marg, Senator Harris' children, and to all who had the privilege of knowing one of the last great statesmen."
