Our Campus Cares provides more than 200 donations for the holidays

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV - The Shepherd University community rallied together this holiday season to help families in need in the local area.

Students, staff, faculty, and alumni came together through the Our Campus Cares initiative to donate 48 Thanksgiving food baskets to Berkeley County senior services.

Shepherd volunteers also collected 25 Angel Tags and filled 25 stockings through the Salvation Army, providing clothing, shoes, toys, winter coats, and other goodies for local children.

"The Angel Tree program is very rewarding for college students like me as it's a way to give back to the community and make a difference in a child's Christmas," stated Ivanna Wilt, a current Shepherd University sociology major. "As a former Angel Tree child, it truly means the world no matter what age the child is since these gifts could be the only ones a child receives for Christmas."

Finally, a collaborative effort between the Athletics Department, the Division of Student Affairs, and the Wellness Center brought in 191 toys during this year's toy drive.

Those items will go to neighborhoods throughout Jefferson County by way of the Covenant Church of Shepherdstown, West Virginia, thanks to the generosity of Shepherd's campus community.
