Protect your household drains by joining the Holiday Grease Roundup

Nothing beats a nice, homecooked dinner with your loved ones during the holidays. But all those tasty dishes come with a side dish of fats, oils and grease (FOGs) that can become a big problem if they end up in your house's drains.

The issue with grease: When fats, oils and grease are poured down the drain, they can build up and harden in pipes, which can cause blockage, pipe bursts and home flooding.

The City of Fort Worth is participating in the 2024 Holiday Grease Roundup campaign sponsored by the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG). Through Friday, Jan. 10, bring FOGs to the City for disposal.

Ways to dispose of FOGs:

  • Pour fats, oils and grease from cooking/food into a sealable container and take it to any of the City's four drop-off stations or the Environmental Collection Center.
  • For grease that cannot be poured into a container, wipe the surface with a paper towel to soak up the grease, then put the paper towel in the trash.
  • Let food cool and scrape off excess food from pans and plates before rinsing with cool water.
  • Avoid relying on your garbage disposal to handle food scraps. Compost your food scraps instead.

Why participate? By recycling FOGs with the City of Fort Worth, you are diverting a valuable resource from landfills and turning it into a clean and green alternative fuel. It also protects household pipes, wastewater infrastructure and the environment.

FOGs are accepted at all four City drop-off stations and the Environmental Collection Center. Find a location.
