Rhode Island Department of Education Announces Winner of 2024 STEAM Logo Design Contest

North Providence High School student's logo design will be used in all STEAMMonth promotional materials in November

NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green and the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) today announced North Providence High School's (NPHS) Elizabeth Ricci as the winner of the 2024 annual STEAM Logo Design Contest. Ricci had her design chosen out of 22 student submissions from around the state. Her custom logo and slogan will be used on all promotional materials to highlight the importance of science, technology, engineering, arts+design, and math (STEAM) education throughout the entire month of November.

"STEAM education allows students to open doors in their minds that they may not have otherwise been able to through critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and gives them the opportunity to showcase their creativity in a multitude of ways," said Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green. "On behalf of all of us here at RIDE, I extend my congratulations to Elizabeth for her excellent design. Rhode Island is continuing to thrive in building the next generation of leaders, and we are glad to be able to share their fantastic work."

Ricci is currently at the top of her junior class at NPHS, and according to her teachers, is "extremely hardworking and the most organized student." She is also on the school's yearbook staff as a lead designer and plays on the varsity softball and tennis teams.

"Elizabeth is a dedicated young individual with an excellent work ethic," said North Providence High School Principal Christen Magill. "She demonstrates knowledge in the classroom and athleticism on the tennis courts. We are thrilled she was able to showcase her talents for the STEAM Month Logo contest. What an honor for the North Providence community that Rhode Island has recognized Elizabeth Ricci's phenomenal talents by selecting her as the contest winner."

"I am so happy Elizabeth won this design contest," said Corinne Gelinas, 2023 Rhode Island STEAM Educator Awardee and NPHS Pre-Engineering Pathway Instructor. "As one of the winners of the STEAM Educator of the Year last year, I wanted my students to participate in the design contest with hopes to win. It feels full circle and complete that the upcoming high school STEAM Educator of the Year will now have my student's logo as part of their award."

RIDE is accepting applications for the Rhode Island STEAM Educator Award, which are due on October 25, 2024, by 4 p.m. The award is presented in memory of Dr. Carol Giuriceo, who served as the director of the RI STEAM Center at Rhode Island College beginning in 2013 and organized the first STEAM Educator Award.
