The City of Jackson is issuing a Boil Water Advisory for water customers in the City Limits, and select properties in Summit, Blackman and Leoni townships.
There was recently a malfunction at the Water Treatment Plant that could cause bacteria in the water. This triggered a mandatory advisory from the State of Michigan. Tests of the water supply have not shown any bacteria. However, it's important for our customers to know what happened. Please view this linked document for more information about the advisory.
As a precaution, residents are advised to boil tap water for one minute before using. Boiling kills any potential bacteria. The City of Jackson plans on updating the community on the status of this advisory on Sunday, Dec. 15 when further testing is complete. More information about the advisory will be posted on the City website, cityofjackson.org. Updates will be sent through the CodeRED system, along with being posted on the City website and social media.
Please refer to this water service map if you are not certain if you get your water from the City of Jackson. A more detailed version is available on our website.
It's important to know that not everyone in the Jackson area receives their drinking water from the City, despite having a Jackson address, so residents are asked to reference the coverage map.
