The Streets Division will perform one more sweep through the city collection brush that has been set out for collection, weather permitting.
If you have brush that needs to be collected, you can set it out for pickup on Sunday, December 15. Crews will begin cycling through the city collecting it as the weather allows.
All neighborhoods share the same set out date. It will take us several workdays to complete this round of collection. This last chance round may extend through the Christmas holiday, depending on the volume set out and the weather. Your patience is appreciated.
Collection is Not Guaranteed. Winter Weather Response Takes Priority.
We may not be able to collect everyone's brush who sets it to the curb for pickup if we receive a snowstorm, or other significant winter event in the days ahead.
Brush piles that are buried under snow, or frozen to the curb, will be inaccessible to our crews.
Also, the same people who will be out collecting brush are the same individuals who drive the snowplows.
Responding to any potential the winter storm event takes priority over collecting brush from the curb.
Guaranteed brush collection will return in the spring of 2025.
What about leaf pickup?
The last chance leaf pickup that began the week of December 8 is wrapping up. The crews that were assigned to pick up leaves will be changing over to perform this last chance brush pickup following the Sunday, December 15 set out date for brush.
If you did not set out leaves on December 8 for collection, you missed your last chance to set out leaves for pickup until the spring of 2025.
Crews performing the last chance brush pickup will only collect brush. They will not collect leaf and yard waste piles.
What is "brush"?
Brush are the branches, limbs, and sticks you have cut from trees, shrubs and bushes. This woody material is collected and turned into wood mulch at our brush processing facility.
Brush must be at least 18 inches in length, and no thicker than 8 inches in diameter. Brush pieces must be shorter than 8 feet.
Also, we do not collect brush that has been cut by a contractor. If you hire someone to trim your trees, this contractor must haul the brush away. Be sure the contractor is hauling to an appropriate disposal site, such as the Streets Division brush processing center.
Drop-off Sites Are on Winter Hours
If you have brush that needs disposal, and do not want to risk winter weather disrupting your pickup chance, you can take it to a drop-off site.
Drop-off sites are on winter hours.
Check the website before loading your vehicle so you know the locations and hours. Drop-off site information can be found at www.cityofmadison.com/DropOffSites.
