Will Kirby, P.E., a transportation sustainability leader in Omaha, Nebraska, has been selected as one of Engineering News-Record's 2025 National Top 20 Under 40.
This is the culmination of ENR's annual Top Young Professionals program, which recognizes outstanding young construction and design professionals in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, specifically highlighting individuals under the age of 40 who represent the industry's best and the brightest rising stars. This is the fourth year in a row that ENR's national list has featured an HDR professional.
Kirby connects clients with services that enhance their projects' sustainability and resiliency. As an Envision Sustainability Professional and HDR's Envision practice lead, Kirby helps provide sustainable solutions across the diverse markets in which HDR performs engineering, environmental and planning work. His project work also includes climate action plan development, sustainability planning, completing solar feasibility assessments, and other work supporting decarbonization efforts. Outside of work, he volunteers his time educating students about science, technology, engineering and mathematics development, coaching his kids' sports teams and supporting the HDR Foundation as an ambassador.
In addition to Kirby, four other HDR young professionals were named ENR regional Top Young Professionals. Honorees were judged on three primary criteria: industry experience and education, career and industry leadership, and community service and involvement.
All winners will be profiled in their respective regional ENR publications in 2025. ENR will also honor Kirby and the new class of winners at a gathering and in a cover story in March.
